Default jammed starter

anyone ever had their starter motor jam up on them?

mine just ticks when you flick the ignition, doesnt even attempt to turn over, battery is fine voltage wise though.

can i just stick it in gear, and maybe rock it free? or is it a starter motor off jobby?

I had this problem (car's in at Zen's for rebuild - so new recon'd starter's going on).

Solenoid would click away strongly (normal batt voltage too) but obvioulsy the pinion would stick. Did try putting it in 2nd and rocking car back and forth - sometimes it would work, sometime not.

Ultimately, I would just keep turning the key and it would eventually start - but could take about 20-30 turns before doing so! Try repeatedly turning the key to see if it will eventually start (be patient). Even if it does, get yourself a replacement fitted asap - prob only a matter of time until it packs up for good, and leaves you stranded somewhere...
