Heat wrap or not to heat wrap ??
As above I am getting a de cat down pipe for my2006 STI and I need advice whether I need to wrap it ? I have looked at the original and there is a lot of heat shields around it. Is that there just for safety if you are working on the car or is it there for keeping the heat away from other components? I don't really want to wrap it if I don't have to.
Any advice would be really helpful thanks.

Wrap it.
It will keep the egt up making the gases escape faster = faster spooling turbo.
It will reduce underbonet temperatures = less heat soak = denser air......etc.....
Reasons not to wrap it
Cost
time/effort.
