Default Lambda Sensor Advice?

Hello, I was wondering if someone can help me. Im 95 impreza has started to misfire/ flat spot when the engine is hot.

I have noticed it seems to do it seems to do it when i come off the motorway and come to a stop. Then when i pull away thats when it seems to do it. The engine light doesn't come on and if you just rev her when you stop its fine but she doesn't always do it!

I asked someone to drive her to see what he thought as i dont know much about these cars and any advice is really greatfull. He said it might be the lambda sensor because she also failed on the emissions when she went for mot last month.

I've changed the plugs & fuel filter.

I've been on the net and looked up these sensors and I dont know which one i need because it asks how many wires mine has or a part number I have no idea. Anyone know?

Plus where should i order it from, i've seen 2 websites one is called just lambda and the other is cats to go, anyone bought from either of these sites and are they a good make? OR is there somewhere else?

Thanks for your help!!!

Mine is running with a fcukd lambda, the only symptoms i have are, no reading on the AFR gauge and fuel consumption is up
As for the type you require, it should be a 3 wwire zirconia type, easy to find out as it is mounted either in the driovers side manifold or in the downpipe, then follow the loom upto the area around the header tank where it plugs in
My advice on buying, do NOT get the universal type, i've had 3 in less than a year and am about to order one from 'just lambda' the universal type donot come with a plug so you have to graft it on the end of your OE loom hence the difference in price. Hth

Sorry me again, So if i order from 'just lambda' it won't come with the correct plug.
0258986502 (LS02)3 Wire Universal

You say first of all not to buy a universal one but then your going to a universal one. I'm a bit confused, which is easily done trust me.
So when you buy one from there it comes with the part that goes in the exhaust (looks like a spark plug) and some cable then I have to cut off the plug on my old one and attach it to the new one. I'm i right so far?

thats correct
.....but leave some wires sticking out of theplug when you cut it, then you can use the plug again should you ever get a 'proper' lambda again

and my universal lambda has failed too ...only 1 year old ...and about 4000 miles

Right so i'm guessing the ones you have bought before where a different make. Not this bosch universal one! I'm sorry to go on, I really am. I have to ask because i'm complete out of my depth!

Do you have any photos i can look at too. I have read on here you connect the

old wire new wire
red white
black white
white black

Sound right???????

Cheap lambda means cheap quality.

Spend right, and do it the once.

You sure it's a Lambda? Sounds like your going off an assumption of someone. Not trying to be harsh here but it may be worthwhile to get a garage to test the function of it first.

I didn't see any engine mods in your profile so i assume you have got the cats and theres no engine mods?

No i haven't got any mods on my car, Completly standard as far as i know! Where can the proper one from? Your right i'm going on what someone has said but I haven't a clue so any advice is helpful. Would any garage be able to check if it is that. Or would it have to go to one who works on these cars every day? How would they check it?

I've just fitted a wideband (manifold) sensor from Just Lambda. Came from the USA with correct plug fitted. Phone 'em up, they're really helpful. Cost £115 delivered. Better than £312 from Main Stealer!!

Just a thought.....

You say that you have a flat spot when you pull away from a standstill when the engine is hot? Are you sure that this isn't just because of heatsoak, heating up the intercooler?

While your car has been running down the motorway, the intercooler has been getting vast quantities of cool air, to cool the air entering the engine. When you stop, the engine is hot, and the top mounted intercooler no longer has fresh air passing over it. The intercooler then heats-up, and as you pull away, then engine gets hot air fed into it, until the intercooler has a chance to cool down again with the air coming in from the scoop.

Because of the warmer air entering the engine, the ECU is likely to retard ignition slightly, perhaps making the engine feel unresponsive and flat for a few moments?

My 93 WRX currently doesn't have a lambda sensor fitted and the only problem I get is the CEL occasionally comes on when using light throttle up hills.

I can't explain your MoT failure, but when a lambda fails, the engine does run rich at part-throttle (it doesn't make any difference to full-throttle performance).

Smile Lambda sensor

Dont know if you have sorted this yet, post is a week old now,
I have just replaced the lambda sensor on my 96 sti import , symptoms were high fuel consumption and lots of popping and banging from the exhaust, got it from powerstation in tewkesbury £120 and had to extend the wiring and fit old socket, they also gave me advice on wiring ( colours may be different to original ) . Hope this Helps.

Hello everyone, I need to change my lambda sensor asap, I have measured the cable and its 27" long. I've looked on just lambda and their cables are much shorter! What shall I do now?

Simply cut the existing lambda's wires as close to the sensor as poss, thus leaving max amount of wires available. Then simply splice the new lambda's wires to the old lambda's cut wires, using a soldering iron and then insulate with heat-shrink sleaves.

If the cable is hanging down excessively and/or touching the header, then tidy it away and secure it against somewhere convenient in the engine bay, using plastic tie-wraps...

ive just received my new bosch lso2 from just lambdas & the wire is about half as long as the orignal so you'll need to put them besides each other & cut the necessary & it also comes with a block conector to join the two only difficult bit is getting the old sensor out
