What is true top speed in standard UK turbo??

What you see on the clock and your actual speed are 2 totally different things.
The faster you go the further out your clock is,so at about a shown 135-140mph if you were clocked by a speed camera you would be doing about 125mph.
These are quite rough guess-timates,but you are going slower than you think.

It's amazing just how much room you need to max out a car, and as one of the earlier posts suggests, you generally are not going as fast as the speedo tells you.
One of the car mags tested the Tuscan R to see if would do its supposed 190+, and found the analogue speedo was reading over 200 mph, the digital read 185'ish, and the speed trap actually showed a true 165mph. So don't be too concerned with 150 on your Scooby speedo, it's more likely to be 130'ish, and I bet that even at that speed, there is a TDi stuck to your rear bumper

Subaru put there cars (Non American Models) in at Salt Lake and got true 249km/h out of them, these were unmodified.
Had the top speed for the fastest production station wagon, but then Audi came along.

Ignore the speedo it's never going to be exact!
However look at the gearing and wheel sizes...
Top/5th in a euro spec impreza (MY98 at least) is 24.8mph / 1000rpm.
Most UK cars will won't pull more than 6000rpm in top which in theory equates too 248.8mph...but that is with 205x50x16 tyres, with 215x40x17 you have a slightly smaller circumfrence, so lower gearing in top (I'm not sure what though)
I know of UK spec cars that will rev out in top, they've seen a few mods , ie possibly 173.6 mph
Now this could meen that a uk ratio box on a car with a modded engine that can rev out in top, and red lines at 8500rpm would be very intersting indeed...210 indeed

I've had my MY98 reading 156mph ... didn't seem to want to go anymore!!
Soon after I got it I was travelling in convoy with a car with calibrated speedo... it was reading 148 at my 150 ... and 100 at my 99 ... pretty accurate.

Have a SPA microprocessor which is as accurate as the info fed in to calibrate. 95WRX reads fast by 9 per cent @120mph on 205x50x16 standard tyres. From actual measurement 215x40x17 SO2 circumference is just under1 per cent less so SPA has to be re calibrated. Published tyre circumference information varies from one manufacturer to another. Best way to get semi accurate speed is to Xmph/1000rpm for that specific car with whatever the rev counter is showing. Make the appropriate allowance for different tyres etc

My car is a Legacy GTB so slightly different, but I've had it just over 155mph, and the speedo is accurate to within 1 mph up to 130mph (Tested against a GPS)
(Twin turbo running 1.15bar with scoobysport exhaust and UK Gearing, I expect the legacy is slightly more aerodynamic than the Impreza)

Calibrating a GPS system? The whole point is that it's accurate down to around 10m (or less these days) for position, and it uses the change in actual location to work out your speed, so calibration is not required...

gatso camera reading was 98, speedo was showing 100mph
when caught last year. Previously had the car off the speedo. Long gentle downhill stretch. (mild mods & optomistic speedo)

Magazine Shoot Out @ Alconbury Airfield (1.7 miles)
135 @ an indicated 152 mph
Totally bog standard MY99 5dr, not even a BB & on NUL ( )
There was more but the braking point on the runway was coming up fast Would have needed another 1/2 mile for another 5mph...
Book speed for a MY99 Wagon is 143
