Default CV Joint / Driveshaft problem

I pulled off (slowly) from a car park last week and there was a loss of drive. I thought it was the clutch, but then there was a clonking/grounching noise. Stopped, couldn't see anything the matter.

It is making a right noise. So i limped it (15mph) home 2 miles. The car almost seems to wobble when coming to a stop.

The car was low-loaded off to the local subaru garage this morning. The garage said it is not a common problem, in fact they haven't had to deal with one before. The car is not even 5 years old!

I just wandered if anyone knew how/why this would happen??

It couldn't be a worse timing for me and it seems there's not gonna be much change from £1k with the towing, half year service and the parts needed, based on the initial thought of the problems. Only recently had the ASTs, ARB, Lockdown, Roll centre and a few other parts fitted. Could it be anything to do with these?

The garage called back. Apparently the driveshaft has collapsed. £395+vat

What's worrying is they said someone has had a go at it before. They reckoned a clip was missing and a different (and wrong) clip was on the boot. Or something like that.

I'm the second owner, had it for over 3 years and it's had nothing like that done.

Anyone know how or why that could've happened?

You can change a shaft in 10 minutes unless it's seized in the hub.
