Hello
Just a quick question about MAFS
I have noticed a few posts where people are talking about the colour of their MAF sensors
Whats this all about.
My one is black..
What do the colours mean?
Is there a "good" one to have?
Thanks
Sorry if this is a dumbass question

Yours being a 98 I don't believe its as much of an issue as it is for MY99/00 cars.
99/00 cars have this fragile maf which can **** the engine up. I think the one with the green blob of paint is the more robust one - least that was what colour the one I bought for mine was.

I'd be interested in the answer to this one cause i think i need a new one, why do yhey have different colour labels, did subaru modify them through the years, do they only work in a specific model/year car???
IIRC...
purple - wire type, Legacy
green - wire type, MY93-96 Impreza
orange - wire type, MY97/98 Impreza (larger diameter sensor than MY93-96)
small cassette - film type, MY99/00

If the worng MAF is fitted, the way it sends it's output voltage to the ECU may differ to the OEM one, for example, etc, etc....
