Default Engine Troble

Just got my scooby back just had a new clutch and clutch servo, took it to swindon for a little blitz and on the A419 smoke started coming out of bonnet pulled over to find oil every where on the right hand side of the engine but cant find where its coming from, AA took me and the car home, the car runs fine when you start it and ticks over without any banging or clanking wich is good but when you rev her smoke comes out of exhaust and she dont want to go.

Any ideas will be a great help

Cheers

Nath

Do you have loads of white-blue smaoke coming out the exhaust when revving it? What's the boost gauge read? Sounds like your turbo's gone (thrust bearing and/or seals failed).

Pull off the turbo to IC hose - is it covered in wet oil (rather than normal thin film of residue)? Whilst you're there, pull off the turbo air inlet hose, reach inside the tiurbo intake, grab the compressor nose and wiggle it about. Basically it should be almost rock solid - if its moving to any degree in any axis, there's your problem.

Turbo's do have a finit lifespan. They used to be good for about 80,000m but modern applications, if treated well, can last serious milage. What's your mileage?

How do you treat it? Do you let the car warm up before hooning? Do you drive for a mile or two off boost after a hoon, before parking up and shuttiing motor off (or at least let the engine idle for 1-3 minutes before shutting engine down)? Do you use fully synth oil? Do you run BOVless?

Even if you do all this, previous owners may not have!

As you can see, lots of variables involved in prolonging the life of a turbo...

90000 on the clock with full service history, i treat it with respect and let her warm up before booting it and let it cool down for 5 mins. just were would that oil have come from as its on the oppisite side to the turbo?

Oh right - thought you meant RHS whilst IN the car LOL. Prob not turbo then. But the revving/no boost syptom you describe sure points to turbo. Does the acr drive okay in all other respects then?

It hasn't blown the oil out of the dipstick? Make sure you check the oil level tomorrow morning on level ground - you need to know exactly how much was lost first.
