Default ECUtek or Haltech stand alone?

Hi there, I'm running a new-age with an EJ257 short motor with forged CP pistons, billet rods, ported heads, 450 hp turbo etc and currently have a ECUtek remap kicking out around 400 bhp but I'm fed up with the way the ECU is always adjusting and learning. One week the car will be running sweet and then the next week it seems different, lots more popping from the exhaust, not quite as clean.

My question is, is it worth me switching to a stand-alone engine management system, like a Haltech E11, and ditching the standard ECU with ECUtek remap? My local tuner is currently doing a deal on the E11. $2700 (£1200) fitted and set up.

There must be lots of peeps out there with knowledge on such systems...

Cheers

I'm guessing its being caused by knock sensor pulling timing like said.

get the car checked with det cans and if ok get them to adjust knock filter in ecutek.

.....does the E11 have knock control? if so you'll be facing the same issues.

I only ever use V Power, and I always use the same garage. There have been garages selling 91 octane fuel as Super unleaded so I'm very careful.

Thanks for the advice

I presume the issue would be heat related?

ecu pulling timing due to inlet heat? sometimes goes like stink, sometimes not? bearing in mind your location...

intercooler spray? water injection?

Thing is, even on the hottest days it was running great. I don't think heat is an issue here. It's not like it's obviously under-performing, it just seems to have lost it's edge and pops from the 'zorst when i change gear now and then.

I'm going to take it to a different ECUtek tuner to see if they can find anything when they plug in their electronic wizardry.....

Failing that, i'll sell the f***er, buy a boat and go friggin' fishing!
