Top piston is a Version 7 ~ 8 fitted in a semi-closed deck block.
Bottom piston is a Version 3 ~ 4 standard size piston ( looks like you have big end failure on No.2 Cylinder if the picture is the right way up ).)
Up to and including Version 4 - the piston will sit above the deck height and use a thick Multi Layer Steel head gasket on the STi's ( composite head gasket on your old block - WRX/Type R etc).
Version 5 onwards - the piston normally sits below deck and uses a thin MLS head gasket on the WRX and STi's.
You will prob end up using a thick MLS head gasket on the later STi 7 block but that is dependant on what heads you are using/volume of the heads/ actual piston deck height to keep the Compression Ratio somewhere near.
