Default intermittent check engine light and loss of power

Hi people, i have 1993 wrx import, the check engine light comes on once warmed up and limits the car to 4500rph, this will be like this for about 10 min then it will go off and continue to run fine, give it another 10 min or so and the light pops back on and again limited revs. the car is absolutely fine when cold and takes about 15 20 min before the prob starts, i dont know if its just a coincedence but the speedo stopped working at near enough the same time. any ideas please.

thanks
Andy

Yes classic scenario. A non-working speedo tells the ECU to limt revs IIRC. Speak to JGM for the detailed explanation.

Replace your speedo (or the whole binnacle with all clocks - cheap enough off eBay) to get back to normal (do an ECU reset after you change it).

Finding a binnacle is relatively easy BUT finding 1 with your mileage is an *** (i know i've gone through trying to find one).
I would have a look at your speedo cable connections and speedo cable itself (does it have a converter).

i suppose though on a car that old you may not worry about the mileage (not slagging the car off as i have a 93wrx )

Yeah agree - therefore only gotta find one with a odo reading HIGHER anyway (shouldn't be hard lol).
