I just had a similar thing from the n/s every time I turned hard right. Turned out it was brake disc rust that had built up over a couple of months of not being used and for some reason the turn must have put the pads fractionally closer to the disc making a horrific scraping noise. After a few good hard stops, the problem has gone.

Had this on mine twice first time took a month or so to find what it was and was front n/s wheel bearing. A year or so later and same noise only from rear and was rear n/s wheel bearing. In both occassions just jacking up and checking for play showed No play at all. Try undoing the drive shaft nut and then checking. My rear one had very little play when testing by hand. I cleaned everything disc, caliper, handbrake shoes the lot several times. A wheel bearing change cured it.

I spoke too soon. My scraping went away for a couple of days but now it's back again. What kind of a job is it to change a wheel bearing?
