Default What is the best crank to use for 450+ or more?

I know the standard sti crank is pretty good but are there any advantages of using an uprated billet crank (say doug kiddy or cosworth ones ) which are a lot more expensive?

Is there any advantages gained (power/longevity) for the price the billet ones go for?

In terms of strength, I've yet to see a standard crank break, but in terms of oil feed design, and weight, the standard crank can be greatly improved, and this is where cranks such as the Doug Kiddy (now Arrow), win.

The DK crank has had the oil feed to the bearings re-designed, so that the feed to the bearings requires less oil pressure to maintain a good supply.

This is most relevant at higher RPM, where oil pressure has been seen to drop away.

If budget allows, it's worth while for added reliability, and the reduced weight will improve throttle response.

Not all billet cranks are designed the same, most just being copies of the original crank, and personally, I wouldn't spend any money on them.

Cheers Chaps. So from Mark's comments, the Doug Kiddy looks like the best billet one around.

The Cosworth crank has cross feed lubrication, and is available in a stroker version to give 2.6 from a 2.5 block. A billet crank won't give you any more power, but it's more likely to hang on after 8000 rpm, where more power is to be had if you're that keen, and built the right kind of motor.
If it isn't a race set up, you won't need one, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have whatever you want if you have the cash!

Why is there such a big difference between the Arrow (DB) and Cosworth one? Is it simply a name thing?

Joz8968 - I'm sure Mark at Lateral Performance would sells the Arrow one.
