Default Help!!!! Idling issues

Hi,
I would like to ask for some more advice.
I have a P reg Classic 2.0 non Turbo AWD.
I have been having some idling issues since Nov (when the weather got worse)The car starts fine, no stalling but the rev counter hovers between 500 -2000rpm and bounces up and down, then after about 10 mins of running the engine it settles its self and the car runs well.
Also on idle there can be a strong whiff of fuel through the vents, but again this goes once engine has warmed up.

The Spark plugs were changed once the problem initially started but seems to not have made any difference.

Also what should I check first? - I have list of ECU codes and reset codes etc, but is there any thing I can check under the bonnet - ie: MAF, Coil Packs, leads etc.

Also as am not that technically minded the Coil Packs on the version I have am I right in thinking its the black box that sits on top of the engine with four HT leads coming from it - As have seen these on Ebay and was wondering if they would fit my model.
How do I check to see if MAF is at fault - or needs cleaning how would I do this?.
And basically anything else I could check or clean.

Many Thanks - In advance:
