Well the gauge may not be buggered just get someone to check to see if it's fitted properly (not saying you haven't )

I've just fitted a boost gauge too, mine peaks when I give it the beans at 23 psi, I've fitted my vacume pipe to the 1/2" pipe at the top of my dump valve, I think that's why I'm getting such high readings. My engine is pretty standard.
I'm gonna move it from the dump valve to one of the smaller gauge pipes at the inlet.

Hi,

My boost gauge reads -2 bar so it idles at about -1 bar. Thats why yours is touching the stop. (Not a problem) As for the rest of the readings they sound OK.

Forget the fuel cut thing, if the car runs fine you are not getting it.

Rgds Red.

If your boost gauge is reading correctly then i would suggest the ecu may have been fiddled with to raise the fuel cut and boost.

Also to make thinks slightly more interesting the early MAP sensor (92-96 cars) will only allow 1.2 bar of boost

Not sure on a rolling road near you i'm afraid (i'm in Dorset) and your car being restricted should not affect your bhp reading on the dyno.

Unless you're going to do trackdays there is no need for doing more than 100

so lets say gauge is right what would have had to be done to it and am i likely to blow it up ?

Well the ecu may have been chipped ,easy way to find out is to open the ecu (passenger footwell, under kickplate resides the ecu, a few screws removed and the innards will be exposed) i disconnect hte battery when removing the ecu.
This is what it should look like unmodified

It will be putting a little extra strain on gearbox, clutch and engine but if you don't drive like the late, great Colin Mcrae all the time it should be fine (turbo is good for 1.5bar,300bhp engine wise depends on how well it's been looked after really).

This is all supposition obviously as internet diagnosis isn't really the best

Very strange Surly niether of these cars should be doing this sort of boost with out supporting mods. Quick Chicks z4 with a polarperformance chip is only good for 1.1 bar (my MY93 import doesn't show as low as -1bar even on over run) and Scoobymysters 2001 (iirc) as standard is .8 ish bar, strange niether are hitting fuel/boost cut. If you could both post which boost gauge you have (may be the same make, same common problem ) I'm baffled so you two must be totally concerned

My boost gauge is made by auto gauge. It a digital gauge that also gives you a battery voltage read out every ten minuites.
b13bat, do you think it could be because I've gone into the thicker pipeing on the dump valve. Do you think I'd be better going into the thinner vacum on the inlet manifold. If the cars running ok am I likely to cause damage

Personally, yes, i would go to the manifold but thats just me, you do as you wish!
As to damaging your Scoob i cant see it, as 'if 'you are hitting 20+psi (which i doubt) your ECU would cut the fuel supply well before to protect.
Thats not to say that you should leave it as is because there is a problem somewhere as with Quick Chicks.
Both of your cars may well be boosting correctly, but, what is the point of having a boost gauge if it don't tell you the correct boost level??
