Default Ahhh think my gearbox has just died !!

Hi i was driving down a duel carriageway this evening short shifting through the box at about 4500 in every gear.

As i dropped the clutch ino 5th there was an almighty whirring noise that shook the whole car. I now have a very noisy box and gears 1-4.

I take it that it's terminal ?

Unusual for a newage as it's usually 3rd LOL

There is a slim chance that something has come loose rather than broken.....but it's slim

What BHP / torque are you running?

Around 400 bhp and 400 ft/lbs on a forged 2.5 with Andy Forest 20g.

I knew it was always going to be marginal but i thought i would do more then 2000 miles !!!

Chancer

I broke 2 newage 5 speed boxes within a couple of months when I went from 350 BHP to 400 BHP / 388 Torque

I thought I'd get away with it but no chance ( and a few grand out of pocket)

Simplest option is an STi 6 speed box, think carefully about UK or Jap I went for a Jap version as I run a 2.0 litre with methanol which is a bit "revvy"..I'd consider a UK STi box for your 2.5

2000 miles is pretty good going LOL

Shaun

if your running 390 on a 5 speeder, then its when not if, so every mile you get is a lucky one im afraid. at 3k your doing very well, unless of course your not driving it hard.
