Default Cam cover gasket, how easy

Need to chage a cam cover gasket (drivers side of course) as the smell of burning oil is getting to me, it looks no harder than changing the plugs (done OK), anyone done it want to add any hints and tips?

Subaru specific hints and tips please as I've done this sort of thing on plenty of other cars.

Simon

a 1/4 drive 10mm socket is best, if you have a 10mm ratchet spanner that is handy also. Whenever I do them, I clean the mating face/groove and fill the groove where the seal goes with good quality instant gasket, fit the seal and press down into the groove, wipe off excess sealant and leave to set for a few hrs. do not apply and sealant to the mating face/seal. I have never had any problems doing it this way, good luck............Andy

Torque up to the correct setting , use subaru gasket set, rocker cover seal , 2 spark plug seals , new seals for the bolts and you may have to replace the half moon cam seals .

OK thanks guys, have a decent set of tools including a 1/4" speed drive, so should be OK!
