Default WR1 or STi PPP???

After some advice please i'm on the lookout for a new motor, have had scoobys for a while now and started looking for an evo8 but then came across a nice wr1, saw the spec ie 0-60 in 4.2 secs and thought yes this is the one but have also seen sti's advertised with prodrive performance pack (ppp) and wondered engine spec wise what the difference is if any
Thanks.

The power difference between a Type-UK PPP (305bhp) and a WR1 (320bhp) is....eeerrrrrrmmm.......15bhp.

That's about the extent of my knowledge of the difference between the two cars, other that the obvious colour difference and cosmetics (I know there are actually many differences, I just don't know what they are).

Cheers, it's the engine performance i'm interested in as some adverts are saying 320bhp ppp and i was wondering if that was the same performance as the wr1 or not?

I've read on here that the PPP'd STi Type UK doesn't actually make anywhere near the claimed 305bhp (unless I'm talking crap ).

sti ppp claims to be around 320 ps (about 316 bhp) but i went on a rolling road day last week and mine read 329 bhp!, also isnt the wr1 pre 06 model so will be a 2 litre rather than 2.5, so the 2 litre would be more revvy whereas the 2.5 would have more torque. at the end of the day it comes down to preference, some people swear by certain models being best but with it now being a buyers market i would personally go with the best deal i could get for my money

Even better would be an 05+ JDM STi which benefits from the stronger, more powerful engine, twin scroll turbo, DCCD-A, quick rack, Spec C geometry (wider track, longer wheelbase), RE070 tires with enlarged stronger hubs, better lights and better dials.

IIRC, standard UK STi's are quoted as 265bhp. JDM are supposedly 280 but always seem to achieve more. A simple remap usually puts them at 305-320, throw in some basic exhaust mods (Milltek) and expect more.

That's not a bad price for a wr1...coming from a wr1 owner myself. I would not change mine for anything and have had it for over 2.5 years now. Bear in mind it's a special edition.

Cheers. Read a few reports and i think that i'll go for the wr1 they say the diff can handle a lot more power so if i was to mod it, not that i think i will it should handle it better.

I understand the dccd box will handle atleast 550-600 bhp mark. Remember that the wr1 will be lower in insurance than the sti ppp as the latter is classed as a modification with the ppp. The wr1 is factory fitted.

StiPete - enjoy this.....i ran quicker than this time but mine was running 340ish at the time. Remember the new ages are heavyweights with xtra Kgs so do not compare with classic times.

YouTube - Impreza wr1 @ USC 2008

Now this is not something the wr1 owners would be associated with

Agree WR1's seem to be priced around £15k and for that money I'd rather have something a bit more special. Hell, there's a Spec C based T25 on PH with 28k on the clock for £12.5k, now that's SPECIAL

And the better geometry setup
Personally if i had the option, it would be a JDM over th WR1, the WR1 was a 265ps car (Solberg ltd edition) which was then converted by Prodrive, this included the remap so its not a factory map, just a remap, the JDM's push this sort of power out of the box, and have more toys including a quicker steering rack
