Default Fuel in Engine oil - Causes??? PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi guys,

What could cause fuel to get into the engine oil. I recently installed a new short motor and it blew a big end. My old motor had the same issue.

I am using castrol edge 10w30 semi synthetic oil.

I couldnt find anything wrong with it as MAF was new and so was the water and oil pump.

The only thing i did find was that when i pulled the dipstick out, the engine oil smelt like petrol.

What causes fuel to get into the engine oil? My no.1 bet is that maybe one or more injectors are leaking so im gonna get it removed and tested.

Also, i was running a walbro hp fuel pump and my fuel pressure with this was 350kpa but now i have resinstalled the factory and my pressure is 300kpa. Is this figure correct?

Car is a V3 Type R. I would appreciate all the help i can get here guys as i have lost a lot of money and good help is hard to find in Fiji.

Thanks.

Injector oring leak is most likely.
Or it is just v rich with fuel pressure reg not original.
You should get it mapped for the mods

Mine leaked a whole fuel tank into the engine through a damaged O ring on a fuel injector on just a short trip.

That's the first thing to check as Simon says.

Good luck.

hi guys...thanks for the replies. Well once i installed the brand new short motor, started it a couple of times at the workshop and then just drove it abt 1 kilometre and when i pulled the dipstick out, oil smelt like petrol so its happening pretty quickly.

One of my mates has a 99 STI and his engine oil smells like petrol as well but my other mate who has a 34 skyline, his engine oil doesnt have a trace of petrol.

I'll remove the injectors and get them sent out for testing and i'll replace the orings while its out. Hopefully it fixes my problem.

Thanks again guys. Appreciate it.

Borewash!
When you say a new short motor... Is it new/rebuilt?
Or just new to your car

Has anyone else had a smell of their engine oil? Does it smell like petrol?

mine does on a ej20 but as JGM said, its more than likely to be the injectors being too big for your setup as mine is, get it mapped or change them, phil.

Used engine oil will always have a stronger "petrol-ish" smell. My STi has Silkolene Pro-S 5/40 in at the moment (for winter) and has a definate hint of it! The engine is fairly modded and has 650cc injectors as part of the spec. but of course, has been mapped to account for the current set-up.
I have this comical vision of Impreza owners, all over the country, sniffing their dipsticks and doing what they do best - worry!
