Default Dump Valve Fitting

Hi All,

When I picked up our 93 WRX STI Classic, it came with a dump valve fitted, but I'm convinced its not fitted in the right place!

Does anyone have a fitting guide and some pictures of where they have theirs... Ive seen some people have theirs on the right hand side of the engine bay :S

Ours is on the left, just to the left of the intercooler

When looking at the car if it's to your left then it's in the correct place.

Should be in the general area of where the cylindrical object is (blue hose connected to it)

Looking at the driver side of the IC you should see a hard plastic pipe running from turbo to IC. In this pipe is narrow plastic 90deg pipe insert.

The dv is supposed to be attached to this pipe by a short rubber hose to the dv's input arm, while the dv's output arm goes into the moulded take-off on the turbo hose intake i.e. the black rubber/platic 90deg elbow that goes from resonator to turbo intake.

The dv has an arrow embossed on it - fit it so that the arrow faces away from IC and towards intake elbow...

Next, make sure there's a short length of narrow vac hose that goes from one of the 3 nipples on the IM to the small nipple on top of the dv.

i've got one of the interior of an early ecu (to show where any add on chip/daughterboard would go) and i think that one was getting worn out as well

Cheers guys... seems it is fitted right then... trying to decide why the dump valve makes a rattling noise when coming on boost :s

I take it you mean it's got the OEM dv fitted as in mbwrx's pic?

Is it defo the correct way round?! As mentioned, the embossed arrow (on the bottom, I think), needs to be pointing towards the turbo intake hose(NOT towards the IC). If it still makes the noise after checking (and rectifying as appropriate), you'll be able to pick a 2nd-hand replacement on eBay (or here) for no more than £20 (they typically sell for £10-15 though).

No its not a recirc standard dump valve, it a Colins DV which has been fitted...

Its got the pipe from the right connected to the DV, and then the bit on the left is blocked up.

Yeah that's correct (as you look at the photo). Is the narrow vac pipe fitted, that comes from the inlet manifold? Is it okay i.e. not hardened with splits etc (Mine was when JGM came to map the car last Aug - there was enough length for him to just cut the slplit section off.)
