Default Starting Problem.

MY1995 Classic WRX. really hard to start- twice this has happened in last few days.. when i start the car the radiator fan comes on straight away.it fires very slowly and will only tick over, it cuts out when i rev it. until it warms up then its ok. check engine light comes on flashes code 21 coolant temp sensor, will i need another temp sensor do you think. just a note i dont have the plug together when the fan comes on, ....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have been having trouble with my fans too, and have been told that if the coolant sensor is gone then it will have trouble on idle, i found that 1 of the 2 fuses on there own in the engine bay fuse box was blown too.
the fans will come on when the coolant sensor plug is off.
just a thought, was it slightly frozen and it thowed itself out, just check you have enough antifreeze in.
phil.

Yes, defo classic failed coolant temp sensor symptom (as the code checked out). Why not get a brand new one - think they're only about £30-odd.
