Do i need a cat?
Got my MOT comming up in a few days, i have a full s/s exhaust from turbo back, I have herd that if you take the car out for a good blast for a few miles get everything nice and hot then test the emissions it can pass. Is this true or just a myth?
I have a sti v3 standard center cat and back box will i need to fit this to get through the test

he garage I took mine too for the last 2 years passed my 93 WRX import with no cat/s. BUt the second pass was only because I had my previous emissions sheet stapled to my mot sheet! I was told it should of failed but they were confused They said it needed a cat for the next mot or it will fail! Its due in March and I am thinking of taking it elsewhere to see what they do

Pre 95 imports do not require cats mate. Its on VOSA web site if you need it in writing
This may help clarify http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repo...01992-2002.pdf

myblackwrx. Mine was tested with the no cat test in the first place and it was fine, but it was also done by a tester who was a sound chap so that's probably why it went through ok lol

So long as you've got at least one cat on your Classic; the lambda sensor's cycling between 0.2 and 0.9V fine; plus plugs and coilpacks are all in good order, then it should get through.
If it doesn't, then it'll invariably fail on the 2nd Fast Idle Test on too high CO2 emissons - but, frustratingly, it'll probably be close to the pass target, anyway . If this is the case, then take the car for an 'Italian drive' i.e. a good thrashing for about 10-20mins using loads of boost. This almost 'ignites' the cat and causes the CO2 content to diminish almost completely, giving you a fantastically low CO2 reading... therefore a big, fat PASS!
