Default management light

hi,the engine management light has come on on my03 wrx so i have had it put on the comp at a local garage and the print out said RUNNING LEAN (bank 1).a friend said that bank 1 is the first silinder on the right as you look at the engine from the front of the car and said there might be a sensor gone!

does anyone know if this could be the problom and if so wots the sensor called?

cheers.......

By Running lean do you mean a "misfire" which triggers the CEL light.

Posting the OBD II error code that the garage found would be helpful

Unusual CEL... for a newage 03 WRX IMHO

I'd try and "borrow" a known working MAF and try that first .........only because The Lambda sensor and the fuel pump fail less often (just )

Tricky one

when i first has the car put on the computer it came up with two faults.......

MASS AIR FLOW and SYSTEM TOO LEAN(BANK 1)

the garage said fit a new MAF because its causing one of the faults but could be cauing both.........

fitted a brand new MAF about a week ago the light stayed off for about 3hrs and then came back on!

when back to the garage an the SYSTEM TOO LEAN(BANK1) fault is still there

cheers for ur help...

I dont want to sound offensive but do you have a cheap induction kit on it by any chance?

I had exactly the same problem on my bugeye, I changed the MAF sensor and but the original filter housing on and it was fine again

possibly will have to reset but on the other hand a 5 min drive might put it right.

Now that you've said that I'm positive its the induction kit, you should have no probs after. If you want an induction kit I have found the Perrin one works fine without any CEL issues.

Let me know how it goes

Andy
