Default warming up and cooling down

just wondering how long you people warm you car up for and if you all need to run them down, i live down a long country lane and wondered if coming down there between 1 and 2 thousand rpm counts for running it down. my car is a 2004 sti.

I used to start mine up for a minute or two before setting of if time allowed, then took the first 5 miles or so steady, under boost as much as possible. Last 5-10 minutes of every journey, especially a 'fun' one, should be under boost. If this can't be done, then let it idle for a minute or so once you stop.

Let car get up to normal water temp then, if you aint' got an oil temp gauge, drive for about 15mins before hooning. TBH I don't have an oil temp gauge and I use boost about 5 mins after water temp needle settles in the middle (stops) i.e normal operating temp (c.85+ deg C)

Yes, driving off boost for 1 to 2 miles is the best possible way to cool your turbo housing (nice cool air rushing over it and taking heat away). then you don't have to wait in the car for 2-3 mins after a thrash, with engine running.

I know someone will go mad at this but sitting and letting car's warm up and cool down is rubbish!!

Just get in your car and drive the thing! Keep it off boost till its warm.

Before parking and turning it off make sure u have at least 1 mile of slow driving before turning it off if u have been booting it.

Some people must have nothing to do in there lives if they have time for warming up and cooling down

i know i hate waiting for it to cool down this is why i have asked. So your saying if you don't thrash the nuts off it there is no need to run it up or down

My car stands for a week and then used at weekends so I'm careful espec in winter to let it run for a few minutes before driving and then staying off boost until up to temp

What about the track then?

I found after a cooldown lap with virtually no braking my brakes cooked them selves in the Pits due to no air flow...

I gave the car quite a while in the pits idling to cool down. How amount of time should i give it in the pits , untill my oil temp is back down to almost normal idle?

Sorry, I should make it clear that when I said get it up to temp, I meant whilst actually drivng normally (but off-boost)... and not idling stationary by the kerbside! (Then when up to normal temp, okay to use boost...).

From what I understand, it doesn't do car engines any good by letting them idle excessively.
