Default Cambelt renewal

Hi Guys,

I'm in the middle of changing my camblet on a MY96 STi and the 2 end pulleys keep moving when I try to refit the new belt, has any else had the same problem, if so, how did you solve the rotating pulleys from moving as I'm afraid if I dont stick anything on them and they turn, the valve's will end up hitting each other causing more damage than needed.

I know on the UK versions they have metal pulley's which have a hollow centre allowing you to get some mo-grips and clamping the top & bottom of either side together to stop them rotating, but my pulleys are plastic and have no hollow centre if you get my drift.

any idea's ?

try a cable tie through the pulleys to hold them still.

Cant use a cable tie as the pulleys have no holes.

Thanks for the idea though.

i did one yesterday and it took patients, start with the crank pully then go to the right ones cams then the left ones, you might want a little help to hold the belt on the right cam pullies while you do the other sides, good luck, its not that hard when youve done it before.

From what I remember it's the top one that tends to spin, I usually put a long spanner or a fixed ratchet on it and wedge it carefully against the shell / inner wing. you any where near Swansea.

I live in Magor, so not really.

I'll get one of my mates to come round and hold a spanner.

I'm sure a cup of tea and a bacon butty might convince them to help.

you nearly tempted me to come over from derby with that offer it will be the top right wheel that spins, your mate will have to hold the spanner and the belt on the wheel too, good luck,
hey WRX MIKE why do ya need to turn the crank before you start it?
