Mapping out the CEL
I wondered if just having the CEL mapped out would be alot cheaper than a full remap or whether the license fee would make it unviable?
We replaced our exhaust with a full decat which obviously threw on the light. Its a 2004 WRX.

I guess you could map it out with the likes of ecuexplorer with out any license costs. But as youve de-catted it you may as well have it mapped and use the gains from the decat

Anyway, back to the original question, is it viable or more cost effective to map out JUST the CEL?

The problem is that if you went to see the car would you believe that the CEL is on due to decat? Or would you possibly think maybe there is something else wrong with the engine.
I would advise getting someone with a code reader to blank out the light and stick a resister in place of the connection cable.
I would also advise the potential owner that a remap is needed......this saves you dealing with hassle when the new owner comes back saying " the engine went bang" after a week of hammering their new toy
