Default Lowering on Standard Struts

Is lowering say 35 or 40mm on standard struts a good way to lower on a budget, or will it affect the handling in a bad way at all, i.e make it real bouncy or something.

has anoyne had this set up? can you get away with it ok?

ok? maybe
good? not a chance.

matched springs and struts should be a must imo unless you just don't care about the handling and only care about the looks.

What about the prodrive lowering springs that Subaru dealers sell !
I thought they where meant to be for the standard shocks

I've lowered on standard struts (struts are brand new) and handle very well, feel great. Go for it

Have to agree. I originally lowered my car 30mm on standard struts using eibach springs and car handled better on track. The newage Subaru sits high as standard IMHO to make it look like a rally car i.e alot of wheel to arch clearance. Lowering defo improves the handling by dropping the centre of gravity providing you dont go too crazy. 30mm In my experience dramitically improves the feel of the newage at least.

You'll need to get the geometery checked/set after lowering.

Prodrive springs would be matched as it is obvious they will be fitted to OE struts.
Good quality makes like Eibach you would hope would match them also.
Cheap arsed lowering springs will ruin the handling and ride.

I should have clarified further in my earlier post.

Lowering by around 25mm as with the Eibach and Prodrive springs should improve things. I believe lowering it much further pushes the roll centre below surface of the road and messes up the handling.

Ive mine ,lowered on tein springs which I think are 30mm and my car handles alot better. However if I had the money I would go for a decent set of coilovers.

On another note I had eibach coilovers on my old sti (bugeye) and the handling was good but the build quality of the coilovers was feckin awful....

interesting.. i always assumed because of the price versus standard struts / springs that coilovers would be very solid and last for years, however ive started to hear of quite a few that have leaked, or been leaking. at moment have some 30 or 40mm springs at home i can put on the standard struts.

yea i dont currently have the money, so 30 or 40mm springs, i think im gona go for it then

What car are you starting with? Newage WRX struts are pretty soft so are a little underdamped for anything much stiffer than stock.

Lowering an Impreza more than 1" does harm the geometry to the detriment of handling, it may still grip/handle better than stock, but not as well as if it were at stock to -25mm on the same spring rates.
