Cams removal/installation?
Ive done the head gaskets on my ej20
but iv got a question for u tech minds out there...
All cams have been kept seperate with cam wheels ect, but does it matter which way rounf the cam goes back in?
I hope you know what i mean by that...
i mean how they go in the head....
I know which cam went where and which wheel,
I just need to be sure there is no particular way they have to go in...
thanks

The cams and buckets should go back in the same place they came from. Your LH (Passenger side) cams will be longer than the RH side cams. You will have to check your clearances when you reassemble to ensure all is ok.
Once assembled all the timing wheels should be in alignment. I.e if you look from left to right along the free end (front) of the engine they should all stick out so that the ends on the wheels are alined.
Timing marks are on the forward face of wheels themselves and a slot in the timing cover IIRC.
Hope this helps

not 100% sure what your asking but,, the cams have marks on them (EX-exhust) (IN-inlet) and the wheels have the same ,,inlet at top , ex at bottom,,, they also have RH- right hand,,,LH-left hand...

thanks for the replies guys...
I know where each cam came from and with what wheel...
I dont think i explained it very well..
what i mean is...
does it matter how the cam sits, on the valves.... I presume not as the timing wheel can only go on one way and once its timed it should all be in the correct cam position?

Version 1 ~ 4 cams have a slot in the snout of the cam and the Timing Pulley's have a locating pin - they will only fit in one position.
Version 5 -> Cams have the pin in the snout of the cam and a locating hole in the Timing Pulleys and will also only fit one way (the right way).
