Not common: the '96 is a 3.9 also.

As far as I know the 180 diff was fitted to the type R not the RA , so I would say you have a 160 diff , my RA had the 160 diff , the 180 diff car should have the 2 pot rear brakes fitted
Cheers Ian

I think the R180 diff was fitted to RA's from '97, mine has the 180. Not sure if the 180 uses thicker driveshafts tho.

R160 diff on 95RA
R180 First appeared on v3 Type R and RA with non vented discs and sliding calipers, then updated to vented discs and 2 pot calipers in 98 with v4 that was carried through till 00

My RA is the last of the 2000 models, has R160 rear diff with single pot floating calipers.

As far as I know only the Type R's and the Type RA V-Limited came with the R180 rear diff (with the V-Limited also having a helical front diff).

Daz as Paul said earlier the V3 does have the R180 plated diff but with sliding calipers, the 2 pot calipers were introduced from version 4 onwards.

Also a possibility the R180 diff was an factory option on earlier Type RA's? (explains why some early imports had R180 diffs)

I think its down to the length.

R160 being shorter obviously.

On an R160 the bottom 2 bolts of the rear cover plate are 60mm apart, on the R180 they are 80mm apart. However this is pure coincedence, as the 160 or 180 (and indeed 200 & bigger again) relates to the diameter of the crownwheel.

Sorry not enough info I gave there , yes all Type R's as far as I know have the 180 diff , but the early one also had 290mm discs with a 190mm handbrake , they could be vented or solid ones but with single piston sliding caliper not the 2 pots , on this model you cannot fit the 2 pots on as the bolt spacings are wrong on the backplates

Cheers Ian

Whichever type of differential it is, remember that it has to come off a MY95 or a MY96 Type-RA in order to have the correct 3.9:1 ratio. Other years will be 4.111:1 and 4.444:1.

Good info Ian,

I also thought that rear two pots from a late model would be a straight fit due to having the R180 Diff and matching hubs. Onto my next question.

What options would I have for upgrading my rear brakes to match the 330mm Stoptechs I have on the front?

Cheers

Daz
