What is this sensor for in the CAT ? Does it disconnect from the wiring ?
Hi all,
Just after a bit advice. Today I attempted to fit a CAT by-pass pipe to my 2004 WRX. This replaces the CAT which joins to the downpipe as I want the car to remain MOT friendly. I have noticed that there is a sensor in the pipe. What is this for ? Is it emissions ? I manged to remove it but I am now having problems getting it back in. Do the wires separate from the sensor ? When I try to screw it back in the wires start to wrap around themselves and I am worried about breaking them. Any advice would be really appreciated !
Cheers,
Wilky.

Follow the cable back up towards the engine, there should be a plug around by the gearbox if i remember right, bit of a fiddle to disconect, its held out of the driveshafts way by a metal clip with plastic around it, just bend this open.
If not just twist it a few turns the other way and when you screw it back in it will unwind and not twist the cables too much if that makes sense.
its the rear lambda/o2 sensor.

That's great mate. Really appreciated. I did what you suggested and twisted the cables the opposite way a bit. Will look for the actual plug tomorrow when it's a bit warmer !! Cheers again.
