I'm looking at getting a uprated turbo for my STI and like everyone else I want to get the best deal I can for my hard earned coin but I have a few questions .

1. Is the MD321H really worth approx £500 - £600 more than a TD05/20G .

2. Why are some TD05/20G turbo's £400 and some are £800 and yet they all claim to be brand new, contain quality mitsubishi parts and be the best you can get.

I know quality doesn't come cheap, you pay for what you get and pay cheap pay twice adages but I also don't like paying over the odds by companies claiming this and that when their product is no better then someone elses.

Any advice/help would be great .

i only had the 20 G and it was great no problems, do not buy the ones of ebay. if you are going to buy a second hand make sure it comes with an invoice.

md321h never tried but some very good reviews never heard anything bad about it,every one that have one always rave about it.

Im also going to be up grading to a 20G.

There are some on Ebay for around £400 which state they are brand new, have lots of pics of the turbo, looks brand new and the seller has 100% feedback.

I should be ok shouldn't I?

Would the correct going rate for a genuine TD05 20G be £800 then? Also, for reference, what's the going rate for a genuine MD321H? I assume it's £1,300-1,400?

Yep thats what I've been looking at. £800 ish for a TD05/20G, although seen them for £400 and £1400 for a MD321H .

I dug deep and got the MD321H, and now the manky exhaust flange has been sorted it's quite a revelation. Even with a FMIC I hit 2000 rpm and off she goes....

Worth the extra ? I don't know, does anyone in the Leeds area have a 20G on a 2 litre, for me to take a ride in ?

i havent tryed the md before but at 1400 ive learnt in this game sometimes its worth that lil extra, but then again it depends if you have that extra couple of hundred if you do then you know what to do. 400 pounds for 20G i wouldnt touch it with a bardge poll.lol

maybe some owners can come on here and give you feed back on it. do you have all your supporting mods in place?

stick to genuine 20g turbos from reputable sellers such as Andy F, Zen etc.. These will be around £900 with vat.
second hand good one will cost you £500 - £600

The 321H is such a good turbo for the 2ltr they are £1000 second hand.

It is all down to your power requirements / goals.

I have a AFP 20g and get 380bhp / 356lbs torque, probabbly wish i opted for a 321h so i could see over 400bhp.

i have the andy f 20g and looked into the md and couldnt justify the extra cost as on a standard 2l sti lump andy f 20g vs md on paper there is a difference but on the road its marginal,get yourself a knackered td05 16g and send 550quid ish up to andy f and it will come back like new in 20g form

I pretty much agree with the above.

Recently went through the above decision process and opted for the 20G from Andy F. Went with the exchange, found a cheap TD05/16G and sent it to Andy for converting.

My mate has an almost identical set-up, but with the MD - both mapped by Andy F, and there is nothing in it TBH.
They actually have very similar spool times etc.
So in my eyes I'm the winner as I saved some dosh.

Car runs very well and pulls like a train!! Recently made 387BHP on Wallace Performance RR. Works in perfectly as anything above that and I will start to kill my box etc.

Oh, and I would stay well clear of those e-bay and JAW warehouse turbo's.
If it looks too good to be true - it probably is.

Exchange from the likes of Andy F is the way to go.

Some people don't like it, but I thought the 20G was a great turbo. Got it from Andy F a few years back and had it on my MY02 STi Type UK.

A friend of mine went the 321H route on his MY01 JDM STi

On a dyno run at Powerstation we overlaid our runs and my car spooled much faster and had more torque but his had more bhp.

The 321H ran about 420bhp if I recall, whilst the 20G ran around 390.

Both great turbos.

I kept the 20G when I had a my 2.5 built as I couldn't afford a new turbo at the same time and the 20G went on to give me 410bhp/430lbs and amazing spool up.

I have since sold the 20G and it was fitted to another MY02 STi and is producing around 380bhp in that car.

I've now got the MD555

The 20G is a good value for money turbo.

the 20G out spooling a 321h everyone goes on about how quick the md spools, did you both have similar setups?? a member on here had both and he rated the md over the 20G.personally i got 419.5 with 10% meth at 1.65 bar.

the md on vpower alone apparently makes 400 on 1.4 bar. thats what the reviews said when i was looking in to buying one. only reason i didnt cause i was tight on cash and had spend the money on other bits.
if i had enough money then i think i would of went md route.

Yes the setups were the same. Same injectors, FMIC, headers, exhaust, ecu etc etc. Mine was UK, other was JDM.

Yes the 321H does spool very quickly, no doubt about that. It is also an easy 400+ turbo (with supporting mods)

However, for the money the 20G is still a great flexible turbo. Mine ran for 50k miles before it got removed and is still running strong.

But if money were "no object" and I could do it again then I would go for the MD321H.

Money will always come into it for most of us, but for me having full boost 150rpm earlier was not worth the extra £500.

20G pulls like a train and keeps me just below the 400BHP mark so my STI box lasts a little longer.

For me, the choice of 20g came down to budget/power target.
I didn't want to go over 400 hp as the bottom end was to be kept standard, so the MD321T just looked like overkill.
I have no idea if the MD would have outspooled the 20g at road going revs, but I am more than happy to get 1 bar @ 2700 rpm on a leaking up-pipe.

BTW, the 20g was a s/hand AndyF model and still cost £450.
If I bought a brand new copy one for £400 then I'd probably end up spending another £200 getting it stripped and balanced. There would still be no guarantee that it would seal well or wheels were made of chocolate.

I have an MD321 on my RA and its running 396bhp 371lbs/ft on a safe map as im waiting to change the gearbox to a PPG

I have to mates both runnng 20G's and have both made over 400BHP on them at Surrey rolling road Mapped by JGM

Ive driven both cars and there isnt much between theres and mine
