Default Annoying running problem: 2005 WRX

Right, My car is really starting to annoy me now.

It is really difficult to drive when doing normal every day soft driving, it is like sort of jerky, feels like when I put my foot on the accelerator it doesnt really want to do much, feels kind of heavy.

The when I put my foot down at mid revs and then change gear, the second my foot goes on the clutch, the revs jump up and the dump valve makes an extended blow off noise, alot longer than a normal blow off noise.

At low revs and I change gear it feels like the spark has been blown out for a split second, theyre is always a delay before the car will pick up, like I say it feels heavy when I accelerate.

The power is sort of on and off in the higher gears, like surging.

I wondered if this could be caused by running lean? But then would I not get a engine check light coming on?

Does this sound fuel related?

OR

Could it be boost related?

OR

Could it be ignition?

OR

Something completly different to what I'm thinking?

Its really doing my head in now, when it was at Scoobyworld I asked them to check it and they said it seemed fine, but I've had plenty of Impreza's to know this one isnt right.

Its done 32k, FSH, plenty of oil changes between services and what not, Its very well looked after, wrapped in cotton wool!

Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Thankyou in advance for any replies I get to this, I'm really hoping I can get this sorted!

It was doing it when it was stocko.

It now has a catback system and an aftermarket DV and it still does it.

People seem to think its a boost issue, but I'm not so sure.

Drive-by-wire, you press the pedal and the ecu moves the throttle... it's witchcraft I tell yee !

Might be later cars as I'm no expert...
