suspect now this is causing my knocking. it a wwrx with alloy arms.

Is a worn ball joint visible on inspection, or is there any way to check?

if i buy a new one from, any suggestion on places, i hear i have to swap a sleeve over from my existing one?

looking for somewhere that could post to hopefully get me one before saturday

ebay mate - i got mine for £20 odd for the pair. A bit of a pain to change. There is a triangular sleeve that you will need to knock off the old joints. You could see if they are gone but theres alot of unbolting involved so you might aswell change them while you're there anyway!

What makes you think they are causing the knock?

basically because of this thread. recently replaced drop links but still getting a knocking over medium and big bumps at speed, almost sounds like its coming from near the top of the strut area, but only on this one side

where they go through into the engine bay?

if so-

yea two of them were really loose, and the thread was really knackered on one, had been like crushed with pliers really bad - (not by me) nut was never going to do up or come off, so cut and drilled it out, and replaced it with a crappy bolt i had lying around - but i t may not be the tightest to be fair, and i drilled it out best i could, but came out at a bit of a bigger hole then it needed to be.

will buy a better nolt today and try tightening it up really tight.

-is this the bolts you were referring to?

yea they have 3 bolts each. They are the top mounts for your suspension struts... the thread is part of the top mounts themselves, if they are knackered you might be looking at repacing them. I have a pair of STI top mounts nearly new. If the ones you have turn out to be no good and your interested..drop me a pm. They are on ebay!

cheers, have just cut the old crappy bolt i put on off, and managed to find a regular noin allen key bolt the exact size of the thread in the top mount, even though some of it is missing as i wassnt overly accurate wuith my drill, it screwed into the remainder of the top mount - by a stroke of god no less.

just gona test it out down the shops, if its still knocking ill give you a pm and bout those mounts
