Default TD04 Hybrid

I was thinking of a hybrid TD04 turbo when I manage to get the bits together to get my 03WRX finished. Anyone any experience with these, and also if I go to look at a used one how do I tell that it is the correct one. Also for an everyday car is this a better option over a VF34/5. What bhp will it achieve with supporting mods. I was planning on intercooler hose, pinks, decat up pipe, ppp cat downpipe, decat centre, ppp backbox, de res-centre, green panel filter and a walbro fuel pump.

Thanks

Darren

As I'm sure you're aware, the reason for getting the Hybrid TD04 is to still retain the '04's great low down response (full boost by c.2500-2800) because of a similar sized small exhaust turbine/housing... But also have the mid-to-top end capability of the '05 (similar sized larger compressor/housing) - i.e. the best of both worlds.

But the max bhp capability is prob around 340bhp. That is similar to those VFs you mention, but the Hybrid would spool quicker, so is the better option IMHO (probably a more robust unit too).

Thing is, you'll no doubt crave more power sooner or later, and therefore a lot of people would skip the Hybrid altogether and go for a TD05 18G/20G, MD321H, or similar - to future proof themselves for higher power later on. Okay, you'll have more lag than would be ideal when running lower power levels, but at least you have the potential for significantly more later on, without the repeated hassle/expense of fitting a bigger turbo later on...

Of course, if c.340bhp is what you know you'll be happy with and no more, then I'd go for the Hybrid in a heartbeat. It's offering the Utopean-like quickest spool but with the rush to the redline, plus higher bhp potential than the normal TD04.

AFP claims power from a Td04 hybrid to be 290-300bhp, not anywhere near 340, that's vf34/35 Td05(?) figures.
It will have the Td04 markings on the compressor house just like the OE one, mounted you won't see any difference, but dismounted you'll see the inlet is honed wider on the inside, and (atleast on mine) the exhaust gas inlet is ported to gasket width.

Oh okay (should've cross referenced AF's site first ). I must admit I thought it was a hybrid between the 04/05 units, incorporating the best aspects of both.
