it cost me around 3k to do mine, but i kept the 16g turbo and stock 440 injectors

1200 of that was labour cost for the bottom end swap, so it could be done cheaper if you have the tools to hand (i don't have the space)

mine included stuff like changing the engine mounts for hardrace ones, i kept the original clutch as it was new, and i had to buy an apexi ecu etc etc

Scoobymania/Area 52 charge £2550 + VAT

It's on their website under rebuilds...but that's standard STI

I cant fault my Area 52 Autosport Engine ... 11,000 miles on it so far and all good.

Ian - you just need the price for the forged shortblock and labour. Not sure how your gearbox would cope with it though.

The REAL cost's of producing a 450/450 car are far greater than people imagine, or are willing to pay, especially on a classic car, which ever model it is..

Also in that list there is up-rated headers,up-rated up pipe, Full 3"stainless exhaust system, up-rated TMIC or FMIC. But if you already have alot of these mods on car then im sure it will be cheaper than price quoted

WMS, request the mods to put your post as a new thread in the "Private For Sale - General" section, with suitable thread title. It'll get more exposure/potential interest... Or repost it as a new thread yourself.

Hi there, I'm interested in a drive-in drive-out build as well.

I'm very much a newbie to Subarus so bear with me

I am also from overseas (Malaysia which is the country between Singapore and Thailand), and I'm planning to export the car with me when I go home.
Planning to buy a MY03 or 04 STI, then get a 2.5l build.

I previously looked at Powerstation's complete Cosworth conversion, Rich kindly replied that it will be £13k in total incl. Milltek exhaust + remap. But then found out about the SC450 which makes that package look pricey. Scoobyclinic is also much closer to me, only 30 mins away on the M1.

Planning to drive the car daily so will need to be reliable. Need to go for a sorted engine as it's only chance I've got. Not much expertise back home in my country, had bad experiences with rebuild in a R33 GTR, cost me a bomb and then blew up - lucky for me it was the day after I sold it.

Some questions:
1. Can I do without the PPG straight cut? (don't even know what a straight cut is) and just use the 6-speed? The 6-speed is a strong gearbox, isn't it?

2. Just to reconfirm, is the exhaust and all FMIC work included in the £9000?

3. Ok, I might take the clutch as well, but would there be any more extras needed? (Just in terms of engine, I'll sort out all the geo and suspension stuff back home).

Thanks so much in advance for any help.

450/450 will destroy a classic five speed box imho !

Six speed is pretty tough.

The clutch is also not an option, std. wouldn't have a hope.

HTH

P.S. Talk to the clinic, get their advice.

Thanks dunx! I think all 03 or 04 STIs have got 6-speeds so should be ok.

But Powerstation offer a complete Cosworth conversion for £11.5k + vat fitted?

Scoobyclinic also have their SC450 complete conversion for £9k + vat fitted?

415bhp and 450bhp is more than enough for me probably...

It's very difficult to give a total figure, because even when you have the engine spec and gearbox decided, you still have the cost of the ancillaries to consider e.g. intercooler, injectors, turbo, ECU etc then you have suspension and brakes to consider. This will depend on what state of tune the car was in prior to the conversion.

You need to get quotes from different sources that reflect the current state of your car and your power aspirations.

It will be a significant investment (if you can call it that) though!

make sure that your quotes are comparing like for like.
They need to be broken down to component items.
So far on this thread we have from £2.75k -> £11k and I would suggest that they are not offering the same package
