MOT Question - Decat
Hi there,
This may be a bit of a dumb *** question.... but as I am quite new to all of this I am going to ask for some help and hopefully it will be constructive
I live in the Manchester area and I've just had my wee scoob for about 8 months now and it's due it's first MOT, now the dude I bought the car from put a full decat system on it. First time I've ever had a car with this so I'm not sure (or I'm pretty certain) that it won't pass an MOT due to emmissions, unfortunately my little naive self didn't get any of the original parts to put back on the car...... is there any way my car can pass an MOT without having to buy a new exhaust system? Or am I screwed and have to buy a new system just before Xmas (or put the car off the road until after the new year?)
Any friendly advice is greatly appreciated!

You could take your car to a garage and ask them to put it on the emissions machine, saying you recently bought the car and want to make sure it is okay. A mate of mine had no CAT on his STi and he told me it passed. Might cost a little but would give you the answer.

Think your screwed ! without at least the front cat fitted. You got any friends that can loan you a centre cat for the test, It may get through on that. Just get the emissions test done first before the mot at a scoob friendly station, you'll know then before testing.

Cheers guys.
Think the best option is to take for a pre MOT emissions test like you suggest. It's a UK model, if I have to get a cat I think the centre section would be the way forward.
Thanks again.

I can get it passed for you. But I'm in Glasow area. My cousin is an MOT tester and passes mine and all my mates Imprezas.
It really bugs him when mk5 Escorts come in spewing smoke out the back and passes, then an Impreza comes in with no cats and he has to fail it yet it puts out less emmisions.

I have a deal with my MOT chap that if the original cat is in the boot then it passes
You will fail in a newage with no cat, although I've heard of a few classics getting through. So as above your options are to buy a cheap second hand part for the day, find a garage that has one to fit for the day for you or find a "good" MOT tester. The good ones tend to cost £20 or so more, but the service is very efficient

A wee update...... just been to a few places today to ask about a quick emissions test before the MOT, National Tyre Services said to take the car away and get it nice and warm and then bring it back...... so I did.....
Got back to the garage, the nice lads in the Sale branch stuck the probe up me Miltek system, a few thousand revs and some minutes later.... the car passed!! It passed with a full decat system on. I was stunned, does this have anything to do with V-Power fuel? Does it burn cleaner?
Anyways, the upshot is I am now booked in next week for a MOT and it won't fail on emissions.... class!

Yeah, I was surprised to say the least
The guys at the test centre advised on taking the car for a good run to make sure that the engine was fully warmed up. Combine that with some good fuel and you should be sweet. Best to go in and have a chat with one of your local garages, as they put mine on the emissions tester for free before I booked in. Just to make sure that it wasn't going to fail and have to go through the testing process and pay again!

Absolutely no way should it pass with a full decat, they must have bodged the analyser, engine out CO at lambda 1 is circa 0.67% a big fail, doesn't matter what fuel you are burning!

I passed my mot today, with the cat fitted. The max co2 reading allowed is 0.3%, i got 0.024%! Does the de-cat really increase it by 10 times? Im fitting the de-cat back on this week
