Default STi 8 Intercooler

I've just bought a 2nd hand STi 8 Intercooler, there is quite a lot of oily residue in the pipe that leads from the turbo and in the Y pipe. I take it this is not normal?

Quite normal, the system re-circulates oil vapour into the intake to save the planet... and cause detonation in the engine ! A good clean and she'll be fine.

imho

Cheers for the info. Are there any downsides to fitting an oild catch can?

None I'm aware of, I got one a week ago, but still need some hose, as my Samco inlet has no breathers, to avoid this exact problem.

It's all pros I think...

Oil vapours recirc'd back into the intake system can lower the fuel's octane rating... So venting to a catch tank instead is very much a good thing .

DOH! Just seen dunx's first post . Sorry
