Default Progress with 2 Litre STi UK

The car as bought.

http://i34.tinypic.com/kls1u.jpg

Full service including plugs, timing belt etc. Removed AFP uppipe and fitted ported headers and purpose designed uppipe. (Using best air filter that added 1 bhp.)

http://i38.tinypic.com/f5ajk5.jpg

As above but with the addition of Hybrid SBC-D-SE boost controller running 1.4 bar and optional SBG-D boost guage.

The SBC-D SE is £145 plus £50 to fit so that has to be one of the cheapest power mods around.
The total RRP for parts excluding the service, excluding the optional boost guage was £514.
Labour for fitting the headers, uppipe and SBC-D SE £125.

So, £514 of parts or £639 inc. labour and parts for 79 bhp and 27 ft.lbs and a much fatter torque curve.

why did the bhp at the wheels go up for the second run but the hp at the engine was down?

Good point. I have no idea but I will ask the rolling road operator and post the information on here.
Wheel slip on second run? No idea.

Harvey,

Does it not make it difficult to quantify the gains between the first 2 dyno runs when they we're done on different types of dyno and in different gears?

Andrew...

Hi Andrew : The first run was done at Warton with Steve Simpson simply because I was there and I fully accept there is not an accurae comparison between runs 1 and 2 because they are on different rollers, Dyno Dynamics at Warton and Dastek at Northallerton. Warton is 85 miles and Northallerton is under 20 miles and that is the only reason for the change of venues.
However, I use both rolling roads frequently and the bhp figures are usually quite close while the Northallerton Dastek RR often shows lower torque figures.
When I have the next reason to be in Warton with this particular car it will get another rolling road run and print the graphs on here.
I hope all is going well for you. Good luck. H.

It doesn't feel that way on the road and from the drivers seat the benefits of fitting the Hybrid SE boost controller were immediately evident. On a particular piece of track that I use to bench mark cars, including those that are getting an aftermarket ECU or remap, this car was a good 12 miles per hour quicker, perhaps more as it passed the marker point and it does have a broader spread of torque from the drivers seat.
I will check at what revs we get 1 bar on the open road and see if that point has moved.

I was under the impression that fitting an ebc without a re-map was asking for trouble?

The car is not being run correctly on the dastek dyno, that is why the results look strange. I can advise on a more reliable method for ensuring the car gives consistent and accurate results.

Thanks for that Paul. By all means let us know a more consistent method for ensuring the car gives consistent and accurante results. I am not a rolling road operator and rely on the technician with the equipment to produce consistent results, otherwise there isn't much use using a rolling road.
I have already emailed both Gerry Gaffney and Paul Wilkins at Dastek but both emails were returned.

I was under the impression that fitting an ebc without a re-map was asking for trouble?
Depending on what you do and providing you actually know what you are doing there is no reason not to fit an EBC to a car without a remap. When the EBC was fitted the car was then run with my DET cans attached and LM-2 wideband Lambda to ensure that AFRs were still safe. Subsequently the car was run on the dyno with a plot for boost and AFR so it is known to be safe.
Sometimes and EBC is fitted simply to limit the level of boost where it is already running away and that will add safety. Sometimes the EBC is fitted to improve the spread of torque and then it is very important to check that the fuelling is satisfactory and the engine is clear of DET. That being the case there is no need for a remap but obviously a remap will optimise whatever engine conditions already exist.
Quite a few Apexi Power FC owners have benefitted from an additional EBC.
As you will see above I plan to have this car remapped when fuelling will be reduced generally and there may be the opportunity to add ignition so it will be interesting to look at results at that time, probably on Steve Simpson's rollers to show the starting point and end point.
