Bit of a long shot this, but worth asking (although I'm probably talking nonscense )...

When you had the Simtek on the old engine, was it running more than 1.4bar boost? Because if so it would have had an uprated MAP sensor on which would've invariably been outputting a different voltage than the OEM 2.4bar one. Therefore, the OEM ECU would be interpreting its voltage signals totally incorrectly, so could be the reason for the running probs.

Thing is, despite all I've said, because the stock ECU reads air density from the MAF, it prob won't affect the running anyhow (MAP only used for boost cut anyway? ).

As I said, worth asking...

Another thought...

Did you run the old engine on a large heavy cone filter on the unplugged MAF (knowing full well the MAF's not being used by the Simtek)? If so, then because the OEM ECU now needs the MAF plugged back in, perhaps the cone filter's weight, etc, has knackered the MAF through the strain, therefore buggering up its output voltage to the ECU?

i believe you'll probs find there are some minor wiring differences at the ECU plug........

If you had als then the select monitor wiring will be altered but wont effect it.
If we used the oe air temp sensor then no other changes and problem is elsewhere.
Check the maf wiring under the bonnet, if we fitted a different air temp sensor you will see it tapped into maf wiring.
Unplugging air temp sensor would then sort it.

okay well I usually move pin 4 to 7 which is then used to enable the ALS.
This is on the middle plug.

If you take a picture of the wires coming out of the middle plug I can confirm etc..

The moved wire if the select monitor signal wire.. or related to so shouldn't effect anything.. but would be worth restoring to original just in case.

The fact though that the maf is not effecting it in the same way is a little strange..

does the CEL come on like normal with ignition just turned on?

Oh and it retained the original map sensor..

Thanks Simon
i'll take a piccy tomorow Yes the CEL lights up with the ignition, everything is back to standard now it runs ok on the simtek obviously not that good as its mapped for something different but on the standard ecu with it ticking over roughly you can open the throttle all the way and it just makes nasty noises and wont rev over about 1500 rpm
anyway ill let you know how i get on tomorow
thanks
