Default Best intercooler for a Hawkeye WRX looking for more power (350 ish)

Hi all looking for intercooler advice. Start of next year I am looking to make a power upgrade new turbo, induction kit etc.

Ok I bought a sti intercooler off one of the guys on here however i am having doubts on if its the best type. Is there a difference between a sti Hawkeye intercooler and older models. the one i have is off a bug or blob (can post photo if needed)

Do i need a sti under tray and if so does it need to be from a Hawkeye ???

Thanks for any help you can offer didn’t want to waste rcm time with loads of questions, thanks again

The STi intercooler is much better than the WRX version. not sure about the hawkeye intercooler though. I would have thought you would need the undertray to benefit, to get the max air flow otherwise its pointless.

best to check with your local scoob dealer

The TMIC used on the MY06/07 (Hawkeye) WRX is not as bad as it looks, 340-350bhp is not out of the question with a suitable turbo plus exhaust, fuel pump, panel filter and remap.

As far as the newage STi intercooler goes there are 2 types - the bugeye/blobeye ones have 33 tubes whilst the hawkeye ones are slightly narrower with 29 tubes.

there you go, only question is whether your new intercooler will fit. If not you'll be able to sell it quickly enough !

The STi hawkeye IC isn't as deep (front to back) as the 01-05 STis - something to do with the electric throttle body being bigger.
This may not have any relevance on fitting though.
I can't find any decreased cooling ability with the smaller IC even running at 380 hp - but then the scoop shape and IC undertray all have their part to play as a package.

if i were you i'd go for the hawkeye intercooler and undertray and sell the bug/blob one you have now.

that way you know you have the right one for your car, and you've got the undertray too which can be quite hard to get hold of on their own
