MY98 UK T Wagon Clutch pedal stays down.
Hi all, had a look on the forums and see a few posts about this issue.... worryingly I had a look under the intercooler and cant see the return spring all the guys have talked about ..... more worryingly Webbers Subaru in Basingstoke swear there is NO spring .... they even showed me the subaru split diagram of the assembly for part numbers etc and no joy.....
Anyone got a pict of where it should be just to make sure im not going mad ?
Cheers

it worsens ....... I can see where the spring should be im guessing and I checked the fluid and it was black... So flushed the old stuff out with new DOT5.1 and well things are worse... The clutch works perfectly well but there is litteraly only 1 inch of "useful pressure" travel to the floor ??? Guys any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Webbers must be looking in the wrong place as all Classic Scooby Turbo's have "the spring", they will find it on Parts Fig 100 (clutch assay) and the Item Code is 30546.
If you have just bled your clutch slave cyl, then you are in the right area... The slave cyl pushes against the clutch arm to release the clutch, there should be a spring running from the top of that arm, forward to a bracket where the box meets the engine. (spring part no: 30546AA030)
If your clutch is worse since you bled it, then you must have introduced some air into the slave cyl. To be honest they are a pig to bleed as the bleed nipple is the wrong end of the cylinder (ie the air will travel to the top of the cyl & the nipple is at the bottom). The best way to get the air out of the system is to unbolt the cyl from the box & tip it nose down (so the nipple is the highest part) and then get someone to slowly operate the pedal whilst you hold the cylinder and undo the nipple. Whatever you do, DONT forget to hold the push rod in place & stop it coming out the end of the cylinder.
Best of Luck
Phil
