Sounds like the rocker gasket, very common, quite cheap to get fixed. It leaks onto the headers, and burns off.

Yes, bound to be the rocker cover gasket - quite common on the flat 4 engine (and common in general). My driver side one needs replacing too (can't stand the smell of burning oil... fills you with fear, lol).

it actually looks like it is leaking from the joint as though it is coming from the inside of exhaust!

Strange
Is it coming from the point the headers connect to the head?

Do you mean where the up pipe mates with the header?

Could be turbo trouble - oil to the turbo getting past the thrust bearing and into the exhaust housing and running down the up pipe? I'd try disconnecting the downpipe to see if you have oil coming out the back of the turbo as confirmation...

The oil should burn off when the engines running, do you get any smoke out the back? As joz8968, could be a turbo problem. If it's leaking over night, could cause the oil your seeing.

might be worth looking at the oil return pipe on the turbo as mine had a leak there and the oil was dripping down and making its way onto the headers.if it is that its a real pain in the *** job but then again it could be something else.
