Default STi V tuning potential

I'm about to pick up a stiV, completely standard. I have wilwood brakes and prodrive suspension/whiteline kit to go on it which will take care of the stopping/handling. I've also got a sports cat downpipe and fujitsubo cat back to help things flow a little better.

Whats the tuning potential for a StiV? Ideally I'd like somwhere around the 320-350bhp region from it. I'm not looking at going banana's want to keep the top mount and not place too much stress on the gearbox. Am willing to replace the turbo/injectors if its worth it.

Sti 5 should be able to hit about 320bhp just with the decat and remap id of thought.

Regular 4-door STi Version V - my fave Scoob! (other than a 22B).

Is it in white?

Ive just bought a STi 6 with a full decat and air filter, and it scares the hell out of me how quick it is, and I have owned some quick motors inc a 400bhp Evo 6 RSX and 330bhp Focus RS. So im guessing a full decat, filter and remap on your STi 5 would make it more then fast enough without putting stress on the engine and gearbox.

awesome - not a saloon and not white, its a silver wagon. Will get the exhaust and new filter on it and remap then post the results up.

Get that remap sooner rather than later, as I believe the STi 5's run the most aggressive ECU map of all the Classics and are notorious be detting their big ends into submission (just ask GGR's Alistair Maine).

In the meantime, definitely use V-Power ONLY and keep away from the limiter (stick to no more than 6k rpm)... until you get it mapped. After mapping, then enjoy properly

When I bought my version 5 it was completely standard. I put it on a rolling road the day after it had a fuel pump, fpr, sti panel filter, decat and exhaust fitted and it made 320.

Before fitting any of that I fitted a knocklink though as they are prone to failing maf's and det if not ran on the correct fuel.

The car is coming along nicely now, got brakes/suspension fitted to it and sports cat/stainless exhaust on and an uprated fuel pump. Running Tesco 99 + octane booster and its going very well, am going to get it remapped with bob rawle but am contemplating swapping out the turbo for a TD05 16g. I understand the 16g's will make up to 350bhp and the stock turbo on a sti5 will run out of puff at around 320-330bhp. How does a TD05 compare real world to the VF on the sti5?

Because your turbo intake hose design is designed for front-entry turbos, you will have to get the top-entry snorkel machined off and a short collar welded back in place... BUT... I have already found a pre-fab'd one on eBay:-

TD05 16G turbo for Subaru Impreza-front entry-ported on eBay, also, Subaru, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 27-Mar-09 19:30:00 GMT)

Of course, you could just go ahead and fit a larger VF35, which is a popular upgrade for front-entry turbo applications. This has similar spool characteristics and top end to the TD05H 16g... and should get you to 350bhp (with supporting mods):-
