Default Tapping an 8mm hole...

I have to tap an 8m hole. There is already a tapped 6mm hole in the item, but the thread has stripped. My questions are: 1] do I use a 7mm drill bit? 2] I have the choice of an M8 x 1.0 or an M8 x 1,25 tap: which is going to be the easiest to find cap headed bolts for?

Any help appreciated.

drill size for M8 is 6.8mm

I think the 1.25 pitch is the standard (easier) to get

Thanks Ray. Id heard that it was 6.9mm & 7.1mm (1.25 & 1.0). My available choices are 6.5mm; 7.0mm amd 7.5mm...

7mm will do, it'll make it a bit easier to tap, if the bolts going to be subject to vibration put some loctite tread lock on it.
