Default 4 Pot callipers

Im planning on upgrading my front brakes to 4 pot callipers and wondered if anyone has any tips on the best way to do it. How do i stop the brake fluid from leaking from the brake hose when i change the calliper over? thanks.

It's dead easy, takes 1-2 hours tops. I used mole grips to gently squeeze the line so as not to loose the fluid. Don't grip them too tight, don't want to damage them! Also, give them a good paint first, well worth it! See my profile pic.

if you feel the need to just clamp the flexi hose gently with some pipe-clamps of mole grips but as a rule you shouldnt drip much fluid as the fluid is only moved by the force of the master cylinder piston from the pedal so gravity will do its job by keeping the fluid in the pipework.

dont clamp them!!! as a rule you will only loose a little drip of fluid,it will not continuously run out leave the fluid reservior cap on & the air tight system will stop fluid leaking out. Trust me im a doctor.

i had no problems clamping mine, but i wouldn't clamp braided lines as said. Push the pistons in as far as you can, then fit the pads before fitting the callipers.

Hi Mate its easy as said already,

Push pistons back into old calipers this pushes most of the fluid back up to reservoir, make sure it does not over flow.
put a piece of clingfilm on to the reservoir, under the cap to make and airtight seal.
change calipers, some fluid will drip out, but as the reservoir is sealed it will be ver slow.
remove clingfilm and bleed system.

Jobs a good un

When was the last time you changed the brake fluid?

New brakes, new fluid why not.

I did mine about 2 years ago now I put a 'How to guide' in the suspension forum you could do a search for it.

What about the guard behind the disc? can this be used with the bigger 294mm discs?

If you have Braided hoses,it not wise to clamp them off.
Put a bit of tube on the bleed nipples and put the tube in a catch bottle - crack the nipple open and push the brake pedal all the way down slowly.
Wedge the pedal in the down position with a piece of wood or similar against the front of the drivers seat frame.
No more brake fluid will come out with the pedal held in the down position.
