Default STI8 Fitting Turbo, manifold, exhaust, injectors etc...

Hi,

I have been planning a power upgrade for my 2004 STI Type UK. I have bought the following parts:
  • Zen Performance TD05 18G
  • Kakumei GT spec headers
  • Kakumei 3" exhaust and downpipe
  • PR 650cc flow matched injectors - from Lateral Performance
  • APS 70mm Cold air induction kit
  • Apexi AVC-R

The car has the following parts allready fitted:
  • Defi BF Oil temp, oil pressure & boost pressure gauges
  • Phormula KS3
  • K Sport 356mm 8 pot front brakes
  • Hardrace engine and gearbox mounts

I was planning to get Neil at Slowboy Racing to fit the parts but after reviewing my finances i think i'll give it a go myself.

The car is booked in for a remap with JGM on the 5th November 08!

I have soaked all the nuts and bolts in wd40 over the last couple of days and today i removed the intercooler and exhaust from the downpipe back:

Tomorrow i'll attempt to remove the turbo and manifold! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

What is the best method of removing the downpipe, turbo and uppipe? The bolts at the top and sides of the downpipe are easily accessible but the lower two bolts seem out of reach!

hi

i did my uppipe/downpipe a few weeks ago, the best way to get to lower bolts at top of down pipe is from underneath, i used a long ratchet with knuckle joint and medium extention, upipe is simple and since you are taking turbo off you can remove the upipe from the top, i had to loosen engine mount on one side and jack engine up a little to get mine out as heatshields where catching, but i removed mine from below.

Headers will come off simple too so long as bolts have been soaked.

good luck

The turbo, headers and exhaust should be straight forward, make sure you change the gaskets.

you might be best to get a hand with the AVCR as this gets soldered into your ecu, not sure how hard it is to change injectors
good luck

I have all new gaskets So far so good, the exhaust came off easily.

The AVCR shouldn't be a problem as i've had enough practice soldering; I bought a fire damaged civic type r a few months back and had to solder one half of the loom to the other half!! I am not 100% on the injectors but will do some research.

Thanks

Turbo removed today, evrything is coming off easily.

Will I be able to remove the manifold and up-pipe without undoing the offside engine mount and jacking the engine up?

Also if anyone is interested in any of the parts i am removing drop me a PM!

Thanks

Good luck with the build, interested in how you get on as I'm planning on doing many of the same mods myself in the new year.

if the turbo is off, remove the up-pipe from the top and then take the headers off from underneath.. no need to mess about with the mounts then..

I wouldn't bother tackling the injectors as they are a b**ch. Your standard pinks should be fine for maxing out an 18G anyway....I THINK

Will keep you updated, i'm hoping to have the manifold, turbo, exhaust and intake fitted by Saturday. I'll tackle the injectors, fuel pump and AVCR on Monday.

Yep up pipe just lifts out with the turbo removed.
injectors are fun to do lol, do them now while the turbo and everything else is off and out the way!
Make sure you have a small thin walled 10mm socket and you should be ok, its for 1 of the bolts on the head breathers drivers side i think.
Look here, fantastic guide:

Thanks, that write up is posted on NASIOC aswell. I should make a start on the injectors this weekend. Imprezas are very easy to work on Now how easy would it be to build a forged engine

Hi,

Today I have started to swap the STI pink injectors for a set of 650cc Power Enterprise injectors.

I started on the passenger side, i removed the old injectors and installed the new ones. I found that the PE injectors do not sit at the same angle as the oe injectors, they sit slightly upright!!

I installed the injectors and switched the ignition on and off a few times to prime the fuel pump, there were no leaks!

Will switching the ignition on and off pressurise the fuel rail/injectors? Or do i have to start the engine to make the injectors flow?

Thanks

Hi, I mounted the exhaust and started shaving metal off the subframe to allow the headers to be installed.

I guess i'll have to install the headers with the up-pipe as one piece??

Do I have to undo the o/side engine mount and jack the engine up?

The headers should fit without lifting the engine afaik.

I re-used the gaskets for my fuel tank hatch. Make sure the gasket doesn't catch on the lid, as that will break it and then it will smell of fuel inside the car like you wouldn't believe I did this and had to use loads of liquid gasket type stuff to seal it up eventually when i couldn't take the smell any more.
