Default Speed Limiter

How, on a MY00 WRX RA, does the speed limiter work? does the ECU cut the spark? or does Subaru use a different method?

The speed limiter is still on my wrx ra and i hit the limiter today, it popped and banged like mad, will this do any harm to my engine?

Cheers in advance, Matt.

On the newage ECU's it uses fuel cut at a predefined limit. I'm not sure about the older ECU's.

De limiter is part of the speedo converter isn't it?

I'm trying to find out what method the ECU uses to limit the car. i.e stops fuelling, stops spark?

Not sure, my speedo is in mph but trip meter still works in kph as it goes round alot faster than it would if it was miles.
