Default ECU question

Hi

I have na impreza classic of 99.

I wanted to do an upgrade and get a different ECU. I know that maybe the best thing I should do is to buy a programmable one and map it according to the car.

But for the time being I would like to buy a better ECU from another impreza.

Can you tell me what kind of compatibility issues should I be aware to?

Is it OK just to swap mine for another? (Like for instance from an STI).

I found an add on the forum about a 22b ECU. I think this would be a great mod on the car. Will I have any problems? Or is it just plug and play?

Thank you!

you cant run an ecu from a turbo on a na, forget it and save your money.

if you want extra power then save your pennys and buy a turbo model.

The o/e ecu is mappable so thats the best way to go i would have thought. It can be custom mapped for your modifications

22b i would guess have a different turbo to yours, the internals would be different as it's an STI and yours isn't (forged compared to cast), 22b would have a higher rev limit.

You could plug it in and see but i don't think the car would like it.

Your car over here is a Turbo 2000 in Japan they were wrxs/STIs

The best ECU for your car is the one that is installed, the parameters etc are matched to your car, i.e. Injectors, Turbo etc etc.

No benefit would be obtained by fitting another ECU without having it mapped to your specific car, the best option is to have your current ECU mapped if possible which should be possible if it is a 1999> car onwards. If not the alternatives are APEXI and again mapping to get the best from your car.

Thanks. That’s what I thought.

But the reason why I haven’t had a remap yet is because I still haven’t installed everything as I’m planning to (different turbo and front IC).

This was kind of an ideia to get a bit more power before doing what I’m planning.

And also keep an extra original ECU…

But thanks for the advice. I think ill keep it like it is for now.

22b ecu will not work without some messing about

the maf and airbox hose are different sizes, they are also different "phase" engines.

99, can be remapped with ecutek as far as i am aware ?
