Whining!
Hi, I have a 2004 WRX, it has just developed an almost deafening whining noise coming from the rear at high speed (sounds a bit like wind noise) which goes away as soon as i lift my foot off the accelorator. Thought it could be wheel bearings but the car has only just done 30k. Could the back plate on the brake disc be rubbing? Any help would be appreciated, cheers

What condition are the rear tryes in and what make?
A mate of mine was convinced his rear bearings (VW Golf) were shot due to the droning at 70mph (typical bearing noise) so I replaced them for him. Drone was still there!
Ended up being his tyres, replaced them and noise gone.

the tyres are falken i think, cheap ones though, i found a reciept with the history i got with the car £150 for 4 tyres including fitting! the noise is really only there at motor way speeds and gets deafening at over 100. They dont look too bad as theyve only covered about 5000 miles. Im going to try get it up on a ramp at my brothers work for a closer inspection but i didnt really expect a problem with an impreza as everyone raves on about subarus being indestructibe! which was the whole reason i bought the car!
