Question Replacement engine - WR1 into STi '02 ?

My UK STi '02 has burnt out an exhaust valve. Upon investigation, none of the exhaust valves are making good close contact with the seats, so the rear of the valves are badly worn. The cost to replace all exhaust valves and potentially the 16 buckets (heads will need skimming) is prohibitive, so I've looked into finding a replacement engine (long).

I've found a unit from a WR1 (04 plate), where the owner has fitted a 2.5l.

Can anyone confirm the use of this ? I'm not aware of any changes between the WR1 and the stock STi, other than the prodrive map - my car is an '02, but still has VVT etc.....

The car has a few other mods, including ECUTek by AndyF, but these are all external (listed below).

My intention would be to 'simply' replace the long engine, using all ancillaries and sensors from my own car......

Cheers,

Mark

should work perfectly..

however I would get the map checked as it maybe that there was a sealing issue with the valves when mapped and the new perfect motor would through the map out..

Surely the WR1 Owner has just fitted a 2.5 bottom end and used his heads. So his 2 litre bottom end will just be the shortblock ( without heads ) so no good for fixing your problem...?

ScoobySlammed - Usually (from my experience) the heads used in a 2.5 conversion are from non-vvt models (i.e. usually pre-01 model) - but I'm going to get a couple of photos prior to purchase....

JGM - Thanks Simon, I couldn't see any issue, but always nice to get an opinion from someone with some experience... as it happens, AndyF always suspected that the car had a 'valve' issue when mapping, as it was always down on performance for the mods - we spent quite some time changing exhaust components, d/p etc - and even checked the valve timing. - I'll get it checked over once its on the road.
