Hi there, check your error codes like so - JollyGreenMonster.co.uk

I'm pretty sure you'll end up with a 24: Idle air control solenoid

If that is the case, just go to your local subaru dealer and get one if they have a parts department.

Checking the error codes only takes two minutes by the way.

My Idle air control solenoid was knackered. I replaced that and still had a bit of a problem - showing no error codes - which didn't go away until my car was mapped. Was using the car with an induction kit, and exhaust system that it hadn't been mapped for.

So if you've modified yours without having it mapped, that may be the cause.

I can only speak from experience on my newage STi but I had a similar problem (idle dropping off to stall, even when changing gears). I don't know whether this is relevant to classic shape scoobies but no doubt the guys on here will. All that mine required was a clean out of the Idle Air Control Valve and replacement gasket (£5.60 from a local Subaru dealer).

This link is pretty useful as well but again it is a guide for the newage Impreza:
Cleaning And Reattaching The IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) - NASIOC

Hope this helps.

Exactly the same as me.

Before mapping - lumpy on tickover...would dip down when you came to a stop at junctions etc.

After mapping by Andy F - Car ticks over perfectly at around 750rpm. Needle on rev counter stays bang on that, and can't be noticed moving with the naked eye.

tick over still sweet on mine couple of times a week it drops below 750 rpm mainly after a good pasting down the by pass but a quick rev sorts it will be sorted for good soon though hopefully looking at 280bhp after remap according to JGM
